Rayagada: With no end in sight from the workers’ resentment for the Indian Metal and Ferro Alloys (IMFA) Therubali plant here, the indefinite strike staged by a group of employees and locals entered second day on Thursday.

While, the agitators held sit-in protest before they locked up gate of IMFA and did not allow staffs in, the production was badly affected in the plant. They demanded fulfillment of all their demands by the plant authority without further delay.

IMFA officials gave a clarification for the delay in meeting the demands of the workers yesterday which was outrightly rejected by the agitators.

Meanwhile, Rayagada Sub Collector Prabir Kumar Nayak has assured the strikers to meet the plant authorities over the issue. He is expected to convene a tripartite meet between the district administration, plant officials and workers soon after holding talks with IMFA officials, which is scheduled to be held today.

After a month’s lull tension again erupted at the Therubali plant of IMFA yesterday after a group of workers locked its main gate and started an indefinite strike seeking fulfillment of their longstanding demands. They claimed that despite an assurance on May 11 by the IMFA authorities to look into their legitimate demands pertaining to education, land issues, drinking water facility, peripheral area development of the plant, rest room for women workers, fixation of minimum wage, EPF, gratuity and bonus the company is yet to do the needful.
