IIIT to start ‘Finishing School’ from current year

Bhubaneswar: In a bid to increase employment opportunities for engineering students, the State Government, on Tuesday, decided to start a specialized programme ‘Finishing School’ at International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Bhubaneswar. In a meeting of the Board of Governors of IIT, chi\ief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi directed officials to make the course industry oriented through direct interface with the industries.

He also directed IIIT to connect their students to loan subvention schemes of the Government so that no eligible students are deprived of higher education opportunities.

The finishing school would be started from the current year. Around 300 students are likely to be trained during this academic year in different batches. The first batch will start in July, 2017. The opportunity can be availed by any graduate from Odisha in Electrical science, Communication Engineering and Information Technology. The cost per student for this training has been estimated at Rs.6000 out of which half will be borne by the Government and the rest by the student.

Additional Chief Secretary Higher Education Department G.V.V. Sharma, Special Secretary Information Technology Ashok Kumar Meena, Director, IIIT Prof Gopal Krishna Nayak along with Professor Ajit Kumar Das were present at the meeting.
