Bhubaneswar: A spirited India went down 0-1 fighting against Argentina in the rain-soaked semi-final match of Hockey World League Final at Kalinga Stadium on Friday. With this Argentina became the first team to qualify for the finals while India will be playing for the bronze medal.

Playing in front of a packed stadium which turned up in large numbers despite rains, India clearly struggled as the ball speed reduced considerably due to water on the turf. Argentina tried aerial shots and managed to earn a penalty corner, which was skilfully converted by drag-flick expert Gonzalo Peillat.

Though India also bagged three penalty corners, it failed to capitalise. The Men in Blue went full attack in the fourth quarter getting at least a couple of chances, but the lone goal scored by Peillat sealed the fate of the game.

While Argentina will play against the winner of Australia and Germany in the final on Sunday, India will play bronze against the losing team.

Earlier in the day, the Netherlands defeated England in the classification match.
