Bhubaneswar: BJD leader and wife of former Chief Minister of Odisha Giridhar Gamang, Hema Gamang resigned from the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Friday.

Hema, who had landed in controversy over her anti-party remarks over past few days, submitted her resignation to BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik formally by stating the reason thereof as failing to function as per her will in the party. In her letter the former Gunupur MLA also alleged that she is being constantly neglected by the party supremo, creating difficulty for her to serve people properly.

After her resignation from the conch party speculations are rife that she would soon join the BJP keeping in view the fact that Giridhar and his son are already in the saffron party.

Hema had been elected as an MLA from Gunupur Constituency in Congress ticket in the year 2004. However, she contested for the same seat again in 2009 and got defeated. She joined BJD in 2014 ahead of the General Election and lost in the race for Laxmipur assembly seat in BJD ticket.
