Heena Sidhu now shoots Gold in 25m Pistol in CWG, Indian men’s hockey team enters semifinals

Gold Coast: Indian’s Heena Sidhu won another medal for India on the sixth day of the ongoing Commonwealth Games here on Tuesday. The shooting sensation won Gold in the 25m Pistol. She finished with 38 points and created a Games Record in the process.

Earlier on Sunday, Sidhu had bagged the Silver medal in 10m pistol.

On the other hand, drag flick specialist Harmanpreet Singh’s two goals (3rd minute and 44th minute) from penalty corners helped Indian men’s hockey team to reach the Commonwealth Games semifinals by beating Malaysia 2-1.

India earned as many as nine penalty corners during the match of which Harmanpreet converted two of them.

The Malaysians claimed one penalty in the sixth minute but Razie Rahim missed out on the opportunity to equalise for his team. However, Malaysia did not have to wait too long to put themselves on the scoreboard as Faizal Saari sounded the board with a field goal in the 16th minute. This was the only goal from the Malaysians.

Indian goalkeeper P R Sreejesh produced a strong performance to thwart the Malaysian onslaught in the second half, including two penalty corner saves.

With 11 Gold, 4 Silver and 5 Bronze so far, India are currently third in the overall ranking. Australia continues to dominate the tally with 40 Gold, 33 Silver and 34 Bronze medals, followed by England with 23 Gold, 26 Silver and 18 Bronze medals.
