Nabarangpur: Residents of five villages from two different blocks – Papadahandi and Tentulikhunti – in the district have been marooned in waist-high water following heavy rains all through Sunday night and this morning.
Flood water has been flowing three to four feet above the Chikili River Bridge near Papadahandi and Baghsuini River Bridge in Tenulikhunti area in the district since this morning.
Floods have disrupted surface communication in many parts of the district. Vehicular movement on the road connecting Nabarangpur with Kalahandi district has come to a complete halt since last night.
Hundreds of acres of farmland have also submerged under flood water in different parts of the district. However, no loss of human life has been reported so far due to the heavy rains and floods in this region.
Meanwhile, the district administration has undertaken rescue and relief operation in the affected areas on a war footing.
