Health Services Hit In Nabarangpur As Ambulance Employees Protest

Nabarangpur: Emergency healthcare services were badly affected in the district as the employees of   of “108 ambulance service” began cease work protest for an indefinite period from Thursday protesting against the recent termination order to some workers.

“As many as 18 employees of ‘108 ambulance service’ in the district were handed over termination order without mentioning any reason. They have worked for four years and have not received their salary of last few months,” alleged an ambulance staff while speaking to media persons today.

“We will not resume our duty till the termination order is revoked,” he warned.

The Odisha government has outsourced the 108 ambulance service to Ziqitza Health Care, a private organisation for operating the service in the region. Currently, as many as twelve 108 ambulances operate in the district.

In June 2017, the State government had imposed provisions of the Odisha Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) to prohibit any strike by employees associated with Medical Ambulance Services including 108 and 102 across the state.
