Health Minister visits AIIMS, meets conjoined twins

Pratap Jena at AIIMSBhubaneswar: As part of the Odisha Government’s efforts to ensure hassle-free treatment of conjoined two-year-old twins Jaga and Balia of Milipada villager under Phiringia block of Kandhamal district, State Health and Family Welfare Minister Pratap Jena today visited the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and held discussion with the doctors in charge of the treatment of the twins.

According to reports, Jena visited the AIIMS premises today morning and met Neurosurgeon Dr Ashok Mohapatra and inquired about the health condition as well as the ongoing treatment of the twins. During his visit, the minister also met and talked to the parents of the twins.

Notably, the State Government swung into action after KalingaTV telecast a program on the twins in November 2016 and repeated it on June 7, 2017. While the Kandhamal district administration provided an assistance of Rs 1 lakh to the family of the conjoined twins at that time, the district patients’ welfare committee provided an additional Rs 25000 for their treatment later on.

The Health Department of the State Government had assured to facilitate their treatment and bear all expenses for it.
