Berhampur: Electronic goods worth lakhs of rupees were gutted after a computer and peripheral shop caught fire near Gandhi Nagar Road in Berhampur Town in Ganjam district last night.
The incident came to light after some passers-by spotted smokes billowing out of one Asish Computer located beside Gandhi Nagar Road in the city at around 10 PM. They immediately called up Berhampur Fire Brigade office for help and intimated the matter to the owner of the shop.
The fire tenders which arrived at the spot failed to bring the blaze under control as the shutter of the shop was locked and the owner of it made an inordinate delay to reach the spot. Till the owner reached and the fire extinguishing operation started laptops, desktops, peripherals and other electronic good kept in the shop had been completely reduced to ashes.
While the exact cause of the fire is yet to be known, the assets lost to the incident would cost lakhs of rupees, informed the fire department sources.
