Gold over 5 kg worth Rs 1.82 crore seized at Bhubaneswar Airport

Bhubaneswar: Acting on a tip-off, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence officials seized over 5 kg gold worth Rs 1.82 crore at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) on Monday. Till date, this is the biggest seizure of gold at the city airport.

According to reports, officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence recovered the gold from three NRIs (Non-Resident Indians) from Kuala Lumpur.

The three NRIs who were carrying the gold in their shoes have been detained for interrogation.

According to reports, this is the 15th case of gold seizure at the airport in the last two months.

Earlier on May 5, the Air Intelligence unit of Customs had recovered 350gm gold. Likewise, they had seized 545gms of gold from a woman passenger on April 22.
