Gold Coast Commonwealth Games: CM Naveen extends wishes to 8 Odia players

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday extended his best wishes to the players from the state who are going to take part in the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games which is beginning today.

Taking to his twitter handle, Patnaik said, “Best wishes to the eight players from Odisha and entire Indian contingent for the #GC2018. The whole Nation will be cheering for you over next 10 days. Give your best and make the country proud. Best of luck. @GC2018.”

Four players from Odisha namely Deep Grace Ekka, Namita Toppo, Sunita Lakra and Lilima Minz have been included in the 18-member national women’s squad for the Commonwealth Games. Likewise, Amit Rohidas has been selected in Indian Men’s Hockey team for the mega event.

Artistic gymnasts Rakesh Patra, weightlifter Saraswati Rout and heptathlon Purnima Hembram are the other players from Odisha who have been chosen to be part of the Indian contingent for the 2018 Commonwealth Game.

The Sports & Youth Services Department of Odisha government, while wishing them all the best, said that they are not just athletes, but ambassadors of Odisha.

The XXI Commonwealth Games, which commonly known as Gold Coast 2018, is all set to begin from today will continue til April 15.
