Jeypore: Unearthing a drug racket in the city, police arrested at least three persons and seized over 2 quintals of ganja and a Bolero from their possession in Koraput district on Sunday.
A patrolling team of Jeypore Town Police got a tip-off on the ganja consignment which was being transported in a Mahindra Bolero bearing registration number CG 16 B 3766 last night. After intercepting the vehicle at around 3.00 AM on Jeypore-Boriguma road on NH-26 and conducting a search of it police found several packs of ganja and seized those. Three persons boarding the vehicle at the time of raid were also taken into custody.
“The seized ganja which would cost over Rs 2 lakh, was being sent to neighbouring Chhattisgarh from Jeypore,” said Pratyush Dibakar, SDPO, Jeypore.
The raids will continue in the coming days to put a check on the illegal hemp trade in the district, said police.
