Balasore: Gangster Papa Panda’s brother Tanmaya Panda alias Kunu was brutally hacked to death by unidentified miscreants on Wednesday.
Two masked bike-borne assailants attacked Kunu near the busy ITI Chowk in broad day light while he was going on a bike with another man. They hacked him on his face and hands and fled the spot before anyone could identify them.
Sources said that many onlookers were present on the spot when Tanmaya was being attacked, however none of them came to his rescue as they were scared of the wrongdoers who were armed with sharp weapons.
The profusely bleeding Panda was taken to the district headquarters hospital in a critical condition only after the arrival of the police. However, he succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment.
Though the exact cause of the crime is yet to be known, past enmity is suspected to be the reason behind the murder.
Police have detained some eyewitnesses for interrogation over the matter.
Notably, Papa Panda is one of the hardcore criminals of the city. The Panda brothers were arrested in the gruesome murder of infamous criminal Santosh Das alias Khasua in 2016.
They were involved in more than a dozen criminal cases including murder, dacoity, highway robbery and extortion.
