Sambalpur: Police busted a gambling unit operating out of Sunapali area under Dhanupali police limits in the district last night and arrested at least 16 persons in connection with the case.
Dhanupali police got a tip-off on the gambling unit late in the night at around 3 AM. A police team which raided a house in the village where the gambling was taking place found at least 16 gamblers busy in playing cards and took them into custody.
Police also seized cash worth Rs 12,640 from the possession of the arrested gamblers along with 104 pieces of playing cards.
All the gamblers who belong to minority community would be forwarded to court today, said police.
