Boudh: A Forest Range Officer was caught on camera while seeking bribe from the ganja smugglers in the Matakupa Reserve Jungle under Kantamal Range of the district on Sunday.
In the video, the Forest Range Officer identified as Rabi Narayan Sahu was seen striking a deal with some locals who were packing processed ganja for smuggling.
Sahu, who had arrived in the Matakrupa Reserve forest along with his office staff was seen asking for bribe to let them go.
He was seen threatening the peddlers of dire consequences if they did not pay the bribe. The deal started from an amount of Rs 35,000 and was finally struck at Rs 20,000. However, when asked about the incident, Sahu denied the allegations.
Meanwhile, District Forest Officer Jaswanta Sethi said an investigation will be initiated and appropriate action will be taken against the accused.
