First of its kind: Odisha CM inaugurates ‘Tribal Sports Meet-2017’

Bhubaneswar: In a bid to promote sports among the tribals across Odisha, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated ‘Tribal Sports Meet-2017’ across the state on Monday.

Patnaik inaugurated this first of its kind initiative of the country through video conferencing at the state Secretariat.

Odisha Sports and Youth Minister Chandra Sarathi Behera, ST & SC Minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi, Chief Secretary AP Padhi, Sports and Youth Commissioner-cum-Secretary Vishal Kumar Dev, Director R. Vineel Krishna and others were present on the occasion.

The sports meet was also inaugurated in the block-bevel and district-level in nine tribal dominated districts of the state.

According to sources, the ‘Tribal Sports Meet’ is being held in Under 14, Under 16 and above 17 categories. Thousands of tribals are slated to compete in eight different sports during the sports meet.
