Fire safety inspections held at 16 places in Berhampur

Berhampur: Officials of Odisha Fire Service (OFS) Department conducted fire safety inspections at several high rises in Berhampur on Saturday and checked the fire mishap preparedness of the buildings.

At least 8 teams of fire officials led by Southern Range Fire Officer M Jagga Rao took part in the inspection drive which was carried out simultaneously at 16 places in the city and included shopping malls, hospitals, hotels and apartments.

During the inspection, the OFS sleuths thoroughly examined the fire prevention and extinguishing machinery installed in the buildings. They also checked other ancillary facilities mandatory for such establishments for the safety and security of the visitors and occupiers.

“The inspection is being conducted to check the adherence of these buildings to the fire safety norms prescribed by the department and is being carried out as per a prior notice issued to these establishments on March 20,” said Rao.

The inspection was underway till this report was being filed and the details are awaited.
