Fake notes of Rs 4.68 lakh seized from train, 1 held

Titlagarh: In a success against counterfeit currency racketeers active in trains, railway police arrested a man from the Hatia-Yesvantpur Express train near Titlagarh Railway Station in Balangir district last night and seized  fake Indian currency notes (FICN) with a face value of Rs 4.68 lakh from his possession.

The accused has been identified as Ramachandra Bhoi, a resident of Dukurla village under Bhatli police limits in Bargarh district.

The incident came to light after Bhoi indulged in an argument with a CRPF jawan who was travelling in the same compartment with him after the later inquired about a bag he was carrying. The accused even went up to the extent of attacking the jawan identified as Raj Upadhay with a knife over the issue in which he sustained grievous injury.

After the victim intimated the matter to the Government Railway Police (GRP) officials, they searched the bag of the accused and found fake currencies of Rs 50, 100,200 and 2000 denominations and seized those.

The injured CRPF jawan was later rushed to a hospital by railway authorities.

GRP officials have detained the accused and started investigation into the incident.
