Fake Maoist Arrested in Odisha’s Keonjhar

Keonjhar : Police arrested a fake Maoist at Nayakote in the district in Odisha on Saturday who along with his gang members had threatened the MD of Ardent steel factory to pay huge sum of money in April this year, informed Nayakote IIC Biranchi Bag .

The accused has been identified as Abdul Gaffar Ahamed, a resident of Joda area in the district. The police also seized three country-made guns, a two wheeler and a four wheeler, which were recovered from his possession.

On April 21, 2018, a gang comprising of around 20 people, claiming as Maoists, had reached  Ardent steel factory and handed over a letter to the o the security personnel on duty asking the MD to pay a sum of Rs 3 crore within three days, said Bag.

A case has been registered at Nayakote Police station in this regard, he added.

Earlier in May, Nayakote police arrested three persons following several raids in Odisha and Jharkhand in this connection and forwarded them to the court.

Search operation was on to nab other members of the gang, police said.
