Bhubaneswar: The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) suspended former Dhenkanal MLA Nabin Nanda from the party on Monday, hours after it was found that the ex-legislator was arrested from a spa in Kolkata where a sex racket was running in guise of a massage centre.

A press release issued by the party stated that Nabin was suspended by the party supremo Naveen Patnaik on the basis of reports informing about the condemnable activity.

Notably, Nabin mysteriously went missing on June 30 from his hotel room in Kolkata and did not return to Bhubaneswar, following which his son had filed an FIR in Kolkata. He was later caught along with sex workers during a raid at a spa in Park Street area. He was arrested under Immoral Trafficking Act and was bailed out on Sunday.

However, Nabin refuted the charges saying he was pickpocketed in Kolkata and had reached the spa after chasing the thief which had entered the spa. A raid was underway in the place and police arrested him mistaking him to be involved in the crime.

“I was out for shopping at around 7 PM on Saturday when got pickpocketed. As the miscreants snatched away my mobile phone and wallet, I chased them into the concerned spa and came in the clutches of the police team which mistook me for a customer,” said Nabin to Kalinga TV over phone.
