Bhubaneswar: As part of the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways’ move to equip toll plazas across the country with Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system, FASTags would be available in all toll gates in the state starting tomorrow. These tags would be available online also through the websites of selected banks, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL).

As per a Transport Department notification today, FASTags would be made available to the customers through Common Service Centres (CSCs) set up at every toll plaza in the state starting from August 18 whereas customers who choose to purchase FASTags online would get those on courier.

A joint initiative of National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), RBI and NHAI, these electronic tags have been made in such a way that once affixed on the windscreen of the vehicles and activated, it would be automatically detected by Radio-frequency Identification (RFID) readers set up at the toll gates to deduct toll fee. This would bring down the traffic congestion at the toll gates as no vehicle would stop at the gate to pay fee.

According to information, the RFID reader installation work at toll plazas across the state is currently underway and is expected to be completed by October 31, this year. Work on the RFID dedicated lanes at the toll plazas is already complete and these would be activated from September 1 this year.
