EOI signed for Athletics Academy at Kalinga Stadium

EOIBhubaneswar:  With a view to providing world class coaching and integrated support services to budding sports persons in the state, the Government of Odisha on Thursday signed an Expression of Intent (EOI) with the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and Athletics Federation of India (AFI) at the State at Secretariat for establishment of a new High Performance Athletics Academy at Kalinga Stadium here.

The EOI was signed by Vishal Kumar  Dev, Commissioner- cum -Secretary , Sports and Youth Services Department, on behalf of the State Government and Adil Sumariwala, President, AFI and Lord Sebastian Coe, President, IAAF in the presence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

“The Academy will be named as “Odisha-AFI-IAFF High Performance Academy. It will create an environment in which potential junior athletes can grow with the Academy helping to shape their careers by building them into best athletes and champion performers,” said a press release by the State Government.

According to the EOI, the Sports and Youth Services Department of the Government of Odisha will provide expenditure funds and ensure necessary infrastructure as well as support services, including the Academy office, an outdoor stadium, gymnasium, medicine and physiotherapy services, hostel facilities for athletes and coaches.

On the other hand, IAAF shall contribute Specialists and assist in educating Elite Coaches, supporting specialists such as Sprint Coach, Horizontal Jumps Coach, Vertical Jumps Coach, Decathlon Coach, Strength Training etc. while AFI shall take responsibility in selecting an appropriate process for the Head of the Academy, selecting all the Indian Coaches, administrative staff, education teachers and special staff for the academy.
