Bhanjanagar: Embarrassed over corporal punishment meted out in school and subsequent humiliation in the hands of his family members, a Class 9 student committed suicide by consuming poison in Sunapali village under Kabisuryanagar Police limits in Ganjam district on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Sourabh Sahu.
Sourabh, who studied in Class 9 in Saibani Government High School located in Sunapali village was reportedly reprimanded by his class teacher over some issue during class hours today. However, things took an ugly turn when the school authorities called up Sourabh’s grandfather who humiliated him at the school in the presence of classmates. Feeling humiliated over the issue and under immense mental stress the deceased reached home to have lunch during recess and consumed pesticide.
A critically sick Sourabh was rushed to Kabisuryanagar CHC and then shifted to Polsara Hospital first and MKCG Medical later where he died under treatment.
Informing on the incident Kabisuryanagar Community Education Officer (CEO) Sudhanshu Sekhar Patra said a probe has been ordered into the incident and stringent action would be taken against the school authorities if they are found guilty.
