Woman delivers in autoRayagada: In yet another incident that speaks volumes about the failure of Ambulance services in remote, rural areas of Odisha, a woman delivered a baby boy inside an auto rickshaw on her way to hospital in Rayagada district on Saturday. Later, the new born baby and mother were admitted to the Kalyansinghpur hospital. Their condition is reportedly stable.

The woman, Pamila Palaska, a resident of Tikarpada village under Kalyansighpur block, suffered labour pain this morning. Her family members called the 102 ambulance service to take her to the Hospital, but it didn’t turn up even after repeated phone calls.

Family members then decided to carry Pamila to the hospital in an auto rickshaw. While on the way to hospital, she delivered a baby boy inside the three-wheeler.

Ironically, the district administration had launched two Maa Gruhas, bike ambulance and a delivery point in Kalyansighpur block aiming to promote safe and institutional child delivery only yesterday.
