Elephant tramples Woman to Death in Odisha

Sundergarh: A woman was trampled to death at Kopasinga village under Bisra police limits in Sundergarh district late on Tuesday night. The deceased has been identified as Padma Munda.

Sources said that the wild jumbo dragged Munda out of her house while she was sleeping and trampled her, causing her death on the spot.

Irate over the incident, locals staged a road blockade demanding adequate compensation for the kin of the deceased woman.

Death of the woman has created panic among the locals as three persons have been killed by the wild elephants in the locality in the last week. They alleged that the forest officials are not taking any initiative, despite request, to drive out the elephants from the area.
