Berhampur: An elderly man was electrocuted to death after coming in contact with a live electric wire laid as trap by unidentified poachers in Matajhari village under Buguda Police Station area on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Gadei Gouda.

Gadei was on his way to farm land in the afternoon when the mishap took place. While keeping a watch on the cattle grazing nearby, he unknowingly touched the electric wire and died on the spot.

Angry over Gadei’s death, hundreds of villagers resorted to a road blockade on Buguda Road bringing the vehicular movement on it to a grinding halt for hours. They demanded adequate compensation for the kin of the deceased as well as stringent action against the poachers active in the forests located near the village.

Expressing his concern over the incident, Surendra Gouda, a relative of the deceased claimed that the district administration is not taking appropriate action against the hunters active near the village. The poachers are posing danger to humans by laying electric wire traps near the village to hunt boar, deer and other wild animals, he added.
