Binjharpur murderJajpur: An elderly man was brutally beaten to death over fishing dispute in Naubanka village under Binjharpur police limits in the district on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Keshab Mallik (60) of Phalapur village.

Keshab was on his way to Gobindpur medical riding a bicycle this afternoon after around 8-10 assailants followed him near Andalo village and brutally thrashed near Naubanka after intercepting. He sustained critical injury in the attack and turned unconscious.

A local of neighbouring Singhapur village spotted him and rushed to the Binjharpur hospital by a 108 ambulance. He was later shifted to Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) as his condition deteriorated. He died during the treatment.

Binjharpur Police seized the dead body and registered a case in this connection this afternoon.

“We suspect the murder to be fallout of past enmity which cropped up between separate groups of Andalo and Phalapur villages over fishing activity, some 15 days ago”, said a police official.

While a dispute occurred over the incident again on Friday, Binjharpur police registered a case today morning and held a discussion with both the groups to sort out the differences.

Investigation is on to nab the culprits involved in the killing, according to the police.
