DVF jawan martyred in landmine blast in Rayagada

Rayagada: A jawan of District Voluntary Force (DVF) was martyred after a landmine suspected to be planted by Maoists went off in Sakata village under Muniguda police limits in the district last night.

The deceased has been identified as Sanjay Majhi (22), a resident of Ambadola village of Rayagada district.

The jawan fall prey to the Maoists’ plan during a combing operation which was being carried out in the Niyamgiri hill area. He got badly injured in the blast and died while being rushed to a nearby hospital.

The martyred jawan’s body has been kept at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) and would be sent to police headquarters where a guard of honour would be accorded. Later, the mortal remains would be handed over to the jawan’s family members, said police.

CRPF and SOG jawans have intensified combing operation in and around Sakata village following the incident.
