Bhanjanagar: Continuing with their crackdown down on history-sheeters in the district Ganjam Police arrested dreaded criminal Buchi Patra along with two of his aides after an encounter in Mathura village under Polsara police limits on Tuesday.
Police got a tip-off on Buchi’s presence in Kakudia forest at around 6 AM in the morning. He was spotted while roaming around with two of his associates identified as Ajit Nayak alias Lipu and Akhaya Nayak alias Panda. A team of Ganjam Police immediately raided the spot and tried to nab the trio. However, in a bid to escape from the spot the criminals opened fire at police. A gun battle erupted between the two sides after police returned fire. Buchi sustained bullet injuries on both his legs in the firing and was caught subsequently by police along with the associates.
Police seized one pistol, two live bullets and a bike from the possession of the arrested criminals.
Buchi was rushed to the Polsara Community Health Centre (CHC) and is currently under treatment.
Buchi’s associates Lipu and Panda sustained minor injury in the encounter and are currently under Polsara police’s custody.
Police said Buchi has at least 25 cases of robbery, attack, and extortion pending against him under different police stations in Ganjam.
