Jajpur: Throwing an open challenge to police, unidentified miscreants killed a jewellery shop owner and a staff after looting valuable ornaments and cash worth lakhs from them on Binjharpur-Kapila Road here last night.
The deceased have been identified as the owner of Tarini Jewellers owner Khageshwar Rana and his staff Chaitanya Sahu.
The attack is believed to have taken place late in the night while the duo was returning home after closing the shop. After following the duo for a distance on Binjharpur-Kapila Road, the looters attacked them with sharp weapons and tried to kill by slitting their throats. Later they decamped looting the cash and jewellery bag, the duo were carrying.
After Khageshwar did not return home till late in the night yesterday, his family members conducted a frantic search and found the duo lying in critical condition on the Binjharpur-Kapila Road near Pritipur Bazar. They were rushed to the Jajpur District Headquarters Hospitals immediately where doctors declared them brought dead.
Police rushed to the spot after getting intimation and started an investigation into the incident.
