Dongria Kondhs demand Rs 50 Lakh ex-gratia for Kunduli deceased’s kin

Rayagada: While the much-hyped Kunduli gang rape incident has triggered massive public outrage across the state, the Dongria Kondh community living in Rayagada district on Wednesday demanded Rs 50 lakh compensation for the family of the deceased tribal minor girl.

The members of the primitive tribe held a rally under the banner of Niyamgiri Surakhya Mancha and staged a demonstration at Muniguda town of the district. They demanded a fair probe into the incident and Rs 50 lakh ex-gratia for the family of the deceased school girl.

This apart, they submitted a memorandum to SDPO Ananta Malick to press their demands.

Meanwhile, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has given a probe order into incident. The NHRC DG (Investigation Division) will constitute a team to conduct a spot inquiry into the matter and submit a report in this regard within 15 days.

The minor tribal girl of Sorisapadar village in Koraput district was allegedly gang raped by four security personnel on October 10 last year. The victim later committed suicide at her house on January 22.
