Bhanjanagar: In an incident pointing at the degrading moral values in the society, Vigilance sleuths today arrested a doctor while accepting bribe from a patient’s relative for surgery at Buguda Community Health Centre (CHC) in Ganjam district today.
The accused doctor has been identified as V Gopal Rao.
A team of officials from Berhampur Vigilance unit conducted a raid at the CHC this morning, after one Niranjan Gouda of Ghodapacha village lodged a complaint yesterday. In his complaint Gouda alleged that Rao was demanding a bribe of Rs 15,000 to carry out a Hernia operation on him.
Acting upon the complaint, the anti-corruption wing officials waited outside the CHC for quite some time and nabbed Rao red handed while accepting the bribe from the complainant.
Later, the officials also seized cash worth Rs 70,000 by conducting a raid on the accused doctor’s house in Buguda.
