Dissatisfied Anganwadi workers barge into Collector’s officeKoraput: Expressing their dissatisfaction over salary hike, hundreds of Anganwadi workers barged into Koraput district Collector’s office on Wednesday.

Irate over yesterday’s salary hike declared by the state government, the Anganwadi workers under the banner of All Orissa Anganwadi Ladies Workers Association barged into district collector Anupam Saha’s office.

They had a face-off with the police when the latter tried to waylay them.

Demanding a salary of Rs 18,000 per month for the Anganwadi workers and Rs 9000 for the helpers, they said that the state government should reconsider its decision over their salary hike. Some of their other demand included the government employee status and pension after retirement.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had yesterday increased 50 percent of the salary of the agitating Anganwadi workers.

As per the enhanced salary, the Anganwadi workers will now get Rs 6,000 per month, Mini Anganwadi workers to get Rs 4,125 while the helpers will get Rs 3,000.

The state government will also provide them insurance coverage for health, life, disability and scholarships.

Demanding fulfillment of their 17 point charter of demands, the Anganwadi workers were in an indefinite dharna at Lower PMG Square in Bhubaneswar since September 12.
