After completing a successful tour of Ganjam district yesterday where he paid obeisance to famous Budhi Thakurani and also witnessed the induction of many BJD, CPI and Congress leaders into BJP fold, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan batted for the linking of Mahanadi and Rushikulya rivers in the state.

“The river linking between Mahanadi and Rushikulya would help create irrigation projects across several districts in Odisha. It would mitigate the longstanding issues of water scarcity in many towns, including Berhampur,” he said.

“The waters of Mahanadi goes in waste. If we go for river-linking, it would come as a boon for the people in Southern part of Odisha,” he said while criticising the State Govt for “failing” to create irrigation potential in the Southern districts during their 17-year rule.

It can be recalled that Youth BJD President of Ganjam District, Ranjan Palei, Manoranjan Dyansamantra, son of former Speaker Chintamani Dyansamantara, Congress leader Pradeep Satapathy and senior journalist Rabi Rath joined the BJP in the presence of Dharmendra Pradhan.
