Haryana: Dealing a severe blow to Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday ordered to attach the properties of the controversial godman in the wake of the violence which erupted after a special CBI court in Panchkula convicted the Dera Sacha Sauda chief guilty of rape.

The High Court also sought a report on cops who ran away or retreated when the Dera supporters advanced in Panchkula following Ram Rahim’s verdict.

The irate mob, who outnumbered the security personnel, went on a rampage at different places of Punjab and Delhi. They torched hundreds of vehicles, including media vehicles and attacked some newsmen. Besides, they also damaged many government offices and private properties across Haryana.

According to reports, the gang set two buses ablaze on Mandoli Flyover in Delhi’s Nand Nagri. Two empty rakes of Rewa Express were also torched at Anand Vihar Terminal Railway Station following which security has been beefed up across Delhi.

The violence of Ram Rahim’s followers forced the security officials to airlift him, possibly the first time in Indian history an accused had been airlifted, out of Panchkula to Rohtak.

Till the filing of this report, at least 17 people were killed in Panchkula while over 200 were injured. The death toll is likely to rise further as the situation is yet to be brought under control.

Heavy security is deployed across Punjab and Haryana, New Delhi along with several cities across the two states remain on high alert as lakhs of Dera followers have gathered in towns across the states with Panchkula, Sirsa, Bhatinda emerging as major flash points.

Alert also sounded in Uttar Pradesh, a state neighbouring Haryana, after violence erupted in Punjab and Haryana.

Meanwhile, Northern Railway declared that all trains from Delhi to Rohtak will remain cancelled due to the law and order situation in Haryana.
