Cuttack: The Commissionerate police arrested Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) Corporator Ranjita Biswal for her alleged connection with the gangster brothers Sushant and Sushil Dhalasamant, informed Cuttack DCP Akhilesvar Singh informed on Wednesday.
Biswal, BJD Corporator of ward no 7 in the millennium city, was allegedly involved in supplying weapon in connection to recent firing on Bijay Kumar Pal of Subhadrapur, police said.
On Sunday, Cuttack DCP claimed that Sushant Dhalsamant, who has been lodged in Bhubaneswar’s Jharpada jail, had hired notorious criminal Mrutunjaya Nayak alias Miku to kill Bijay after the later denied to pay extortion.
The Dhalasamant brothers, also known as D-brothers, had formed the Cuttack Nagar Yuvak Sangh and Biswal was the Joint Secretary of the organisation.
It was alleged that the Dhalasamant brothers used to spread their crime empire through the Cuttack Nagar Yuvak Sangh by organising various social activities. However, following the arrest of the D-brothers, the Sangh was dissolved.
Meanwhile, District BJD President Pratap Jena dismissed Biswal from the primary membership of the party after being arrested for her alleged link with D-brothers.
