Curbs on plying of heavy vehicles in city during Puja

Police makes special traffic arrangement for hassle free Durga Puja Bhubaneswar: In a bid to make the Durga Puja celebrations in Bhubaneswar hassle free, Commissionerate Police has decided to impose a ban on the entry of heavy vehicles into the state capital from 4 PM to 2 AM between September 26 and October 1. Heavy vehicles will ply on the National Highway flyovers during this period.

Heavy vehicles are to be restricted on Khandagiri Square-Pokhariput route via Jagamara and Gandamunda. They will also remain off the roads on Fire Training School Chowk-Sishu Bhavan Chowk route via Paika Nagar, Siripur and Ganganagar.

Such vehicles will also not ply on the CRP Square-Power House Chowk route via Stewart School and DAV School in Unit 8.

The traffic ban will also be followed on Jayadev Vihar- Raj Bhawan road via Behera Sahi and Shastri Nagar.

Heavy vehicles will also remain off the Jaydev Vihar- Nandankanan route during the stipulated time.

Similarly, from Acharya Vihar Chowk to Biju Patnaik International Airport via Nicco Park, Patel Marg, Housing Board and AG Square will also be free of heavy vehicles.

Heavy vehicles will also not run from Acharya Vihar Chowk to Kalinga Hospital Chowk and from Vani Vihar Chowk to Sishu Bhavan Chowk via Rupali Square and Master Canteen.

Tourist buses from Puri to Bhubaneswar will reach Baramunda bus stand via Lingipur, Samantarapur, Rajmahal, Sishu Bhawan, Ganganagar and Fire Station.

A fine of Rs 500 to 1000 will be collected from those who violate these restrictions, commissionerate police said.

Speaking to media, Police Commissioner YB Khurania said 25 platoons of police force will be deployed in Bhubaneswar and 54 platoons in Cuttack during the week-long festive period to ensure tight security.

Undercover police personnel, Quick Action Team (QAT), ODRAF teams will also be in place. Two platoons of SOGswill be deployed in Cuttack and one platoon in Bhubaneswar to deal with any eventuality. Besides, two platoons of CRPF will also keep vigil, Khurania added.

As many as 182 pandals of Goddess Durga will adorn Bhubaneswar, while 168 pandals will come up in the Silver City.

The Commissionerate police has also has asked all puja committees in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar to install CCTV cameras on their pandals.

Volunteers will be deployed to control the vehicular traffic near the pandals.
