Balasore: A middle-aged couple tried to commit suicide by consuming poison over family feud in Lunipada village under Oupada police limits in the district last night. While the man died, his wife his wife is battling for life.
The couple has been identified as Kamalakant Das (44) and his wife Anita Das.
The incident took place late in the night after Kamalakant returned home from Kasapa market. A verbal duel erupted between the couple over vegetable cropping which escalated into a heated argument later on. In a fit of rage, Kamalakant took out a pesticide bottle kept at the house and consumed the poison in a bid to end his life. After seeing her husband in critical condition, Anita also consumed pesticide from the same bottle.
The couple was rushed to Khaira CHC by some neighbours immediately after the incident and shifted them to Bhadrak DHH due to critical condition, later in the night. However, Kamalakant died under treatment at the hospital.
Anita was shifted to SCB Medical in Cuttack today morning.
Police have sent the dead body of the deceased for postmortem and lodged a case of unnatural death in the incident.
