Sambalpur: Giving a boost to transport infrastructure in the state, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik would inaugurate the 2.5 km long Sapne bridge on Ib river, which happens to be the longest river bridge in the Western Odisha today.

Popularly known as the ‘Ib Setu’ the bridge has been constructed with a whopping budget of Rs 117.5 crore. Following its inauguration at around 12 noon the bridge would bring down the distance between Ib Thermal Power Station (ITPS) and Sambalpur by 50 kilometres. It would join the MCL coalfield area to the Biju Expressway.

In view of a demand earlier made by the locals to name the ‘Ib Setu’ after the late Communist leader Prasanna Panda, the administration has beefed up the security in the area during the inauguration event. A dispute occurred over the demand at that time.

Naveen is also scheduled to attend the 2nd Annual Convocation of IIM, Sambalpur at Sambalpur University and lay the foundation stone of Rengali-Sapne by-pass road during his Sambalpur visit today.
