CM Naveen Patnaik Releases Book On 80 Years Of Odisha Budget

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik released a book titled ‘80 years of Odisha Budget- A Commemorative Volume’ at a special programme held at Jaydev Bhawan here on Monday.

Addressing the occasion, the Chief Minister said, “The book is a unique publication that provides glimpse into the rich history of Odisha and presents a record of its changing socio-economic, political and cultural landscape through the lens of the budget.”

“This compilation is an effort to present the journey of Odisha in these 80 years through facts, figures and pictorial representation. Odisha is the first state in the country to bring out such a compilation,” he added saying the book will be useful for scholars, researchers and policy makers.

Budget is the mirror of the policies of the Governments. The eighty budgets presented since 1936 portray the commitment of the government to take the State on the path of development, The Chief Minister stated.

“When Odisha became a separate state in 1936, the budget was only Rs 1.77 crore. When we took over the government in year 2000, the budget was Rs 14, 000 crore. Today, the budget is Rs 1, 20, 000 crore,” he said.

“The State came up with a separate agricultural budget in 2016 with focused attention on the agricultural sector. Over the years, the state has made significant strides in educational, health and infrastructural sector. Eighty years is a long time and phenomenal journey for the state. We have achieved milestones during this period,” he added

Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat, Deputy Speaker Sananda Marandi, Finance Minister Sashi Bhusan Behera, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Bikram Keshari Arukh, Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mihsra and Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi were present on the occasion.

Besides, Several Ministers, MPs, MLA, senior bureaucrats and many other dignitaries attended the programme.
