Berhampur: As speculated, former Union Minister Chandrasekhar Sahu on Monday clarified that he will join BJD. He will join the state ruling party in the presence of its President and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in Berhampur on April 4.

Chandrasekhar had quit Congress party along with Ganjam district Congress President Bhagaban Gantayat and AICC member Bikram Panda on March 30. They had quit the grand old party citing the ongoing infighting in the party. They had sent a letter to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) President Rahul Gandhi and OPCC president Prasad Harichandan by mentioning the cause thereof as “no future” for them in the party.

Bhagaban Gantayat and Bikram Panda will also formally join BJD along with Chandrasekhar. The ten corporators of Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC), who had resigned from Congress party on Saturday, are also likely to join BJD.

R.Murali Mohan, Ranjit Kumar Nayak , Anil Nayak, Sanjukta Patra, Lili Kumari Behra, Gita Madhi, Priyanka Choudhury, B.Srinibas Rao, M.Meenakhi and Minati Kumari Bishoi are the ten corporators who had sent their resignation papers to the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Prasad Harichandan.

They had clarified that as their leaders – Chandrasekhar, Gantayat and Panda – had quit the Congress, there was no need for them to continue with the party.

Meanwhile, one more Congress corporator of BeMC Dandapani Nayak also resigned from the party today.
