CBSE results row: Student attempts self-immolation

CBSE results row

Bhubaneswar: A student of a reputed city school attempted self-immolation outside CBSE Regional Office in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday. He was, however, rescued in time by security personnel present at the site.

The Parents’ Association gheraoed the office protesting discrepancies in results of Class XII. The association has demanded re-evaluation of papers, a high level inquiry into the irregularities, punishing the erring officials and waiver of fees for rechecking are among the various demands raised by the Association.

The meeting between the parents’ association and CBSE officials, however, failed to yield any results.

Hundreds of students have raised questions on the marking system and sought rechecking of their papers.

Earlier, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also raised the issue with the HRD Ministry seeking their intervention into the matter. The HRD ministry, in turn, sent a two-member team of senior CBSE officials, but it failed to resolve the stand-off.
