CB to probe Chhota Rajan link in Odisha

Crime Branch to probe alleged Chhota Rajan link caseBhubaneswar: Crime Branch (CB) Special DGP Bijay Kumar Sharma on Sunday informed that the Special Task Force (STF) of CB will probe the alleged Chhota Rajan link unearthed in Berhampur yesterday in which four persons were arrested.

“FIR alleges that the illegal telephone exchange was facilitating international calls and had linkages with organized criminal groups. A team of officers of STF and EOW, including cyber investigators, is being deputed to Gopalpur. An additional SP is heading the team. Arrested accused in the case shall be brought on remand for custodial interrogation,” Sharma tweeted.

Acting on inputs provided by the Mumbai Crime Branch, Gopalpur police arrested four suspects – T Laxminarayan Sharoff, Pradeep Choudhury, Suresh Kumar Satpathy, and Santosh Kumar Sahu – for routing international calls through an illegal telephone exchange and alleged underworld link.

Mumbai Crime Branch had traced the call to Berhampur from where a call was made to a Mumbai-based realtor demanding extortion of Rs 2 crore. The realtor reported the matter to Mumbai Crime Branch that a close associate of Hong Kong-based Chhota Rajan, Suresh Pujari, had made the call to him.

Police also seized five China made sim boxes, which are mostly used by terrorists and underworld dons, 25 sim cards, from their possession.

Police suspect their links in Bhubaneswar, Puri and Rourkela.
