Cape Town: The first session of the third day in the first Test match between India and South Africa has been wiped out due to continuous rain here on Sunday.

The crease has been covered with massive tires on top to prevent it from the rain water. Though Newlands stadium was considered as one of the better draining grounds in the country, plenty of water was seen on the outfield.

If the rain stops in time, South Africa will resume their second innings with a lead of 142 runs and eight second-innings wickets in hand.

Hashim Amla (4*) and night watchman Kagiso Rabada (2*) were on the crease when stumps were drawn on day two of the match.

In the second innings, South Africa have lost wickets of Aiden Markram (34) and Dean Elgar (25) both claimed by Hardik Pandya.

India were folded up for 209 runs on the second day, in reply to South Africa’s first innings score of 286, thanks to Pandya’s blistering knock.

The 24-year old Indian allrounder defied a fearsome fast-bowling attack and scored 93 off 95 balls.
