VIMSAR row: “Call off strike for discussion,” urges Health Minister Bhubaneswar: Odisha Health Minister Pratap Jena on Tuesday urged the agitating PG students of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla in Sambalpur district to call off their strike first to have discussions with him.

Based on media reports about the difficulties faced by patients in the hospital, the Minister requested the junior doctors to end their agitation and join duty.

“The district administration is trying its best to convince junior doctors to call off their strike and join duty. Some students of VIMSAR had come to meet me. I told them to call off their strikes by this evening and assured them to hold discussion personally. Necessary steps will be taken by the state government to solve their problems,” said Jena while speaking to reporters.

Demanding the ouster of the director of the government-run medical college and hospital Aswini Kumar Pujahari, the PG students have launched an indefinite strike. They launched the strike after Pujahari filed an FIR against some students for pelting stone at his residence on July 29 night.

On the other hand, the director of VIMSAR has got massive support from the locals who have praised him highly after he caught two Associate Professors of the institute red-handed doing private practice during duty hours in sting operations and suspended them.

The locals had observed a dawn to dusk bandh yesterday in support of the director and demanded the arrest of the two absconding PG students who had attacked the kin of a patient.
