Keonjhar: At least one person was killed and 25 others sustained injuries after a private passenger bus hit a stationary truck near Pataharichandanpur village under Ghatagaon police limits last night.
The deceased has been identified as the helper of the bus.
The mishap took place late in the night while the bus namely ‘Swastik’ was on its way to Bhubaneswar carrying passengers from Barbil area of Keonjhar district. Near Pataharichandanpur the driver of the bus failed to spot a dumper truck which had parked on the road and ended up ramming into it from behind. The intensity of the collision was so high that the bus got completely mangled from the front under it.
While the helper of the bus died on the spot, 25 others sustained injuries in the accident and were rushed to a nearby hospital. Four of the injured were later shifted to SCB Medical in Cuttack due to deteriorating condition.
Ghatagaon Police seized the mangled vehicles reaching the spot and sent the deceased for autopsy.
