Bus carrying Odia senior citizens on pilgrimage meets with accident in Vellore

Vellore: A bus carrying senior citizens from Odisha, who were on a pilgrimage, met with an accident in Vellore of Tamil Nadu on Sunday.

Odisha Tourism Minister Ashok Panda informed that the accident took place when a truck hit the pilgrim-laden bus from behind while it was standing at a traffic square. Around 40 people from Rayagada district were there in the bus.

Sources said that all of them sustained minor injuries, however left for their destination soon after first aid.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had on January 4 flagged off the fifth Baristha Nagarika Tirtha Yatra train (pilgrimage train for senior citizens). As many as 997 senior citizens from 10 Southern districts including Kandhamal, Boudh, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and Ganjam boarded the train. They are slated to visit Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh) and Vellore (Tamil Nadu) and return on January 9.
