Malkangiri: The BSF jawans went beyond duty again in Chitrakonda cut-off area of Malangiri district last night and saved the life of a ‘postpartum woman’ by ferrying her to a nearby hospital, in the absence of any other mode of transport.

The woman identified as Rukuna Khinchei of Jantapai village under Papermetla panchayat turned critical due to excess bleeding after giving birth to a baby boy at Janbai CHC late in the night yesterday. Doctors in the Janbai CHC referred Rukuna to Chitrakonda CHC due to the deteriorating condition at around 2 AM.

Rukuna’s family members faced initial trouble in finding an ambulance or any other mode of transport to rush her to the Chitrakonda CHC. However, they called up the Janbai BSF camp for help on the advice of the doctors at Janbai CHC. A group of BSF jawan reached out to them immediately and took the ailing woman to Janbai ghat in their ambulance and then ferried BSF boat to the Chitrakonda CHC.

“The woman was suffering a drop in blood pressure at the time of admission in the hospital. However, she is out of danger now following the treatment,” said a doctor who is treating the woman at Chitrakonda CHC.

The efforts of the BSF jawans are being lauded by all in the district.
