Cuttack: The officials of the excise department seized over 250 grams of brown sugar worth Rs 30 laks from the Press Chhak of the Silver City on Tuesday. The excise sleuths also arrested four drug peddlers in this connection.
Acting on a tip-off, the excise officials intercepted a Mahindra Scorpio near Press Chhak and seized the contraband from the vehicle and nabbed all the four persons who were in the vehicle.
The arrested accused have been identified as Intaz Mallick, Sk Nassiumddin, Yasin Bax and Noor Sazat.
Sources said that brown sugar was being smuggled to the silver city from Jaleswar area in Balasore district.
Further investigation into the matter is on, added the sources.
