Bhubaneswar: Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan who visited the Bomikhal flyover mishap site and took stock of the situation this morning held the Odisha government responsible for the mishap.

“The tragedy raises serious concerns over the quality of the construction work as this is the second such mishap at the same site in the last six months. It exposes the inefficiency and corruption prevalent in the BJD Government,” said Pradhan while speaking to the reporters.

“Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik owes an answer to the people on why no punitive measures were taken and why the executing agency was allowed to carry on construction work even after the first mishap,” he added.

This apart, the Union Minister demanded an impartial probe and corrective measures by reliable agencies like IIT Chennai having experience and expertise in civil engineering.

“Human life is precious. Therefore I urge the CM to take strict action against the guilty rather than being hand in glove with them,” he said further.

Refuting Pradhan’s allegation, Odisha Works Department Minister Prafulla Mallick said that the Union Minister is politicizing the issue. Odisha government has taken action against the accused. Owner of Panda Infra Projects Pratap Kishore Panda was arrested and has been sent to Jharpara jail. Besides, the matter is being investigated by the police.

A labourer was killed while another was injured after the under construction Bomikhal flyover caved in on Thursday.

Notably, the Panda Infra Projects was blacklisted after a portion of the under-construction Bomikhal flyover project had caved in on September 10 last year.
